My beautiful children and their captivating photos always inspire me to scrap.

I get my ideas from everywhere.  From magazines, to print ads, to billboards, to fashion, sale catalogs, stationery, greeting cards, brochures (even car brochures), etc.

If there is one fellow scrapper whom I admire and am inspired by, it's Angelia Wigginton. (Anj: Angelia was recently named a member of the Scrapbooks Etc. Creative Team for 2007. She is also one of CK's 2006 Hall of Fame winners).

When I experience scrapper's block, I go through the most current magazines and idea books I have until I get that light bulb moment. I don't scraplift (unless it is for an assignment and I have to). But rather, I will take an element from a particular page and make it my own.  When I am fresh out of ideas, someday , I may scraplift for my own personal pages.

I am extremely flattered when someone “lifts” my work.  It's nice to see how they interpret it with their own twist.

My tools, preferred brands/manufactures, technique

I cannot scrap without my paper trimmer, Fiskars micro-tip scissors, a ruler, an X-acto knife, glue dots, and my favorite adhesive.  My favorite adhesive is the disposable Duck brand permanent adhesive because it works on everything — paper, vellum, metals, and it glides on smoothly.

My computers are also essential.  (I am a Mac girl.)

I don't really have a favorite technique but often, you will find machine-stitching on my pages.

I love taking pictures with my Nikon D70 (Digital SLR).  For everyday, always-in-my-purse tiny camera, I use the Canon SD400.

It isn't really visible in my scrapbooking style, but the influences of being Filipino are sometimes part of the topic of my pages.  However, I do think it is a trait of Filipinos to be resourceful when it comes to using what you have and make the most of it.  And resourceful is what I am.  :)

One obvious reflection of being Filipino would be the images of my children's faces on my pages. Although they are a mixture of Filipino and Caucasian, it is evident that they have physically favored a great deal of their Filipino side.

My future plans

Right now, my priority is to be available for my family.  The time I allot for my scrapbooking is only secondary to the time I spend with my family. Scrapbooking is a big part of my life but I want to continue to enjoy it as a hobby.  And getting my work in print is just a bonus.

I don't have any future plans of getting a book published.  Personally, I would probably rather work on a book along with a co-author or a group of other designers.

on emerging scrapbooking trends
It's tough to predict.  But whatever it will be, I'm not one to really follow a scrapbooking trend or what's “in.”  If it appeals to me, I'll give it a try.  If not, I'll pass.  I just do it the way that pleases me.

I just say do what makes you feel happy.  Don't be afraid to try different things, products, and techniques.  Part of developing your style is viewing other people's and learning what appeals to you. This could be an ever-changing thing and that's totally fine.

My advise to anyone who wants to be published is start and continue to submit your work consistently. The more projects you submit, the better your chances are.  So, please do not get discouraged after submitting a couple and you don't hear anything back.  Be patient.  Keep in mind that most magazines plan their issues about 6 months in advance.  For example, in July, you should be submitting Christmas layouts/projects. Learn your cameras and strengthen your photography.  Strong photos can only help your chances.

The publications welcome projects that represent all cultures and ethnicities. I look forward to seeing more pages in print that represent the Filipino race and traditions.
