There are good scrappers and great scrappers. Then there are the truly gifted ones. The truly gifted ones are easy to identify. They have this one distinguishing characteristic that’s easy to spot: they always, ALWAYS want to share not only what they have, but what they know. I guess they can’t help it! These gifted ones have such a vast reservoir of creativity that needs sharing and by golly(!) the more they do, the better they get! Call ‘em "lucky" too and not just “gifted.”

I’ve said it before and I will say it again: Valerie Salmon inspires. As a scrapper, she inspires me no end. As a Filipina, she inspires me even more… and to be a recipient of her unassuming warmth, candor and guidance truly humbles the likes of me. She is my greatest influence and I hope my passion for my craft will always, proudly, reflect that.

It therefore doesn’t surprise us here anymore at MyScrapWorks that a Valerie Salmon would gladly extend help for ScrapMeet 3 – not one bit mind you – because she is as you “see” her in all her published works – truly, wonderfully disarming! - M

The Valerie Salmon Sketch and Scrap Challenge.

  • Theme: OPEN (ANY THEME YOU LIKE!)
  • Layout size: 12x12 using the sketch provided as “guide.” Val says “The layout challenge is more than just a sketch challenge.  I challenge scrappers to go beyond what this sketch looks like – to interpret it whichever way they want, using as little or as many embellishments as they want.  I am definitely looking for creativity with a capital C.” Scrappers MUST use at least 3 photos in their 12x12 layout.

  • Materials: ANY scrapbooking line (acid free, lignin free, PVC free), products, and/or embellishments. YES! ANYTHING YOU WOULD LIKE TO USE OR ARE COMFORTABLE OF USING!  The challenge is limited only to traditional paper scrapping. No digital-scrapping entries allowed. Val says “Scrappers must use a variety of different patterned papers, combined with cardstock.  They can section up parts of the sketch if they want.”

  • We are opening a thread in the FORUM titled "Ask Valerie" where you can directly ask her questions about the Challenge or just about anything and everything about SCRAPBOOKING in general. Ladies, keep it as a Q&A forum and not as a "hi-hello" ok? Thanks! IF you are registered, you can post a question at the Forum, if not, you can still go read what's posted and learn from there!

Valerie is personally donating all the prizes for the Sketch and Scrap Challenge. While the scrapping goods up for grabs really makes everything exciting and interesting, what makes it truly something a true-blue scrapper MUST join is this: added to the top winner’s hoard of goodies is an autographed copy of the Ask The Masters Book (retails US$25) – key word: autographed!

(You can hear Lala doing her long shriek that ends with some sort of tiny echo “weeeeeee” in the end! Haha!) THAT book would be priceless. (My preciousssssss!!!) Valerie is one of the most published Filipina scrappers we know (and one whose works graces the most labels, idea and hardbound books! Really!)! To have something FROM HER PERSONALLY is a truly awesome scrapper's treat!

Criteria for Judging:
Creativity and Execution 50%
Photography: 25%
Journaling: 25%

Good luck ladies. Go wow Val! Let's show this "master" what we can do!
